Olive Church of Christ Mr. Rayburn Lee Price, age 80 years and 9 months, of 1780 Holliday Road, Vernon, AL, died early Sun- day morning, June 7, 1998, at his home. Mr. Price was born on Friday, September 7, 1917 in Lamar County, Alabama. He was the son of the late James Riley (Jimmy) Price and Lou Ada (Smith) Price of Vernon, AL. Mr. Price was a member of the Church of Christ, wor- shiping with the Mt. Olive congregation. He had also served as an Elder. He was a Veteran servin in the U. S. Army. He fou the Phillippines, Aleution Island, Eastern Mandades and other places.He was a re- tired restaurant owner and farmer. Mr. Price was known for his love of fox hunting. Mr. Price was preceded by his wife, Mrs. Pauline (Hall) Price on May 13, 1998. They were married on January 12, 1946. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 1998, from the Mt. Olive Church of Christ. Bro. Guy Hester and Bro. Travis Brown were the officiating minis- ters. A congregational song service was directed by Randy Kingsley. Interment was in the Mr. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of Vernon, AL. Active pallbearers were:Kendall Price, Brian Gentle, Brett Gentle, Darrell Upton, Tim Wilson, Roger Price Mr. Price is survived by a son, Jimmy Price, Toddville, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Glenda (Bruce) Gentle, Vernon, AL; two brothers: Earnest (Hattie) Price and Barney (Ann) Price, both of Vernon, AL; one sister, Mrs. Clora Hester, Vernon, AL; five grandchildren: Kendall Price, Lori (Darrell) Upton, Brian Gentle, Brett (Misti) Gentle, Teresa (Tim) Wilson; five great-grandchildren: Kayla Price, Morgan Upton, Jessica Upton, Jake Upton, Terri Wilson; and a host of other relatives and friends. Others preceding Mr. Price in death were: one sister, Flora Hollis; five brothers: Travis Price, Vaner Price, Grady Price, Shirley Price and Angelo Price. ! Mrs. Myrtie Ethel Ayers Hawkins Buried At Webb Cemetery Saturday Mrs. Myrtle Ethel Ayers llawkins, age 73, of Sulligent, AL, passed away Thursday, June 4, 1998 at North Mis- sissippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. Mrs. Hawkins was born September 17, 1924, to the late Noah Roland and Dolie England Ayers. She was a member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. She also served as an active volunteer at Maywood Christian Camp in Hamilton, AL. Mrs. Hawkins was a retired seam- stress fiom Munsingwear in Gum, AL. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Webb Baptist Church. Officiating ministers were Bro. Dan Hmdman, Bro. Danny Stanford and Bro. Sidney McLoud. Mrs. Stephens was born August 3, 1923 in Pickens County to Samuel Jonas and Mamie Hayes Stripling. She was a resident of Belk, but bad formerly lived in Pickens County and was previously a long time resident of Brownsville, AL. She was a member of the Belk Baptist Church and was previously employed with the Fayette Cotton Mill for over eight years. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel in Fayette, AL. Mrs. Moore was born on May 25, 1910, in Lamar County, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Elbert Trull and Mrs. Kitty Lenora Aycock Trull. She was a housewife and a member of the Meadow Branch Baptist Church.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Fred Moore and a son, Mr. Joe Moore. Funeral services were held at 4:00p.m. Thursday, June 4, 1998, from the Chapel of Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. Officiating was Bro. Joe Newell. Mrs. Laverne Edgeworth Stockton, Vernon Native, Rites Held In Aberdeen, MS. Mrs'. Laverne Edgeworth Stockton, age 86, of Aber- deen, Mississippi died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at her resi- dence. Mrs. Stockton was born on March 6, 1912, in Vernon, Alabam/a. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Hattie Rector Edgeworth. She had lived in Aberdeen, Mississippi since 1936 and was a homemaker. Mrs. Stockton was a member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ and of the Twentieth Century Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Stockton. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 1998, from the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Jerry Jones was the officiating minister. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery under the direction of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Stockton is survived by her sons: William L. Here is today's recipes: BAKED HAM WITH M1 (prep time: 20 minutes) 3-5 pounds precooked ham, drained 10-12 whole cloves 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 2 teaspoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons orange juice 2 tablespoons cornstarch Score ham in a diamond pattern and stud with Crock-Pot. Combine brown sugar, mustard and spoon on ham. Cover and cook on High 1 hour, 6 to 7 hours or until ham is hot. Remove ham to platter. Turn Crock-Pot to High setting. Combine and cornstarch to form a smooth paste. Stir into. Crock-Pot. Cook stirring occasionally until sauce Spoon over ham. 5 or 6 quart unit: If cookin hour on High, then Low 8 to 10 hours. Serves 12 to CHERRY ANGELS l can (16 oz.) dark sweet cherries 2 teaspoons butter 3 egg whites 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/8 teaspoon salt 2 cups shredded or flaked coconut 1 tablespoon cornstarch Drain cherries; reserve liquid. Bring cherries, 1/4 served liquid and butter to boil in skillet; s heat until liquid evaporates. In mixer bowl, until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, while stiff peaks form. Beat in vanilla and salt. To cornstarch together; fold into egg whites. teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheet. Make an mound with back of spoon large enough to hold one! cherries. Bake at 325 degrees F about 20 minutes or! edges are brown. Cool cookies on a wire rack. Store container. When ready to serve, place 1 or 2 tation on top of each macaroon. Makes 3 dozen. STORAGE TIPS: *Cooked filling may be stored in airtight in refrigerator. * Top macaroons with cherries 1 to 2 hours before bestllts. ................. , .....
